MT Summit XVI is looking for proposals for tutorials on any MT-related
topic. We are searching for tutorials from experts in the areas below:
- MT Researchers and developers
- Commercial MT Users
- Governmental MT Users, and
- Translators that use MT
As well as these, all themes related to MT research, development,
deployment, use, and evaluation will be considered. Tutorials are
scheduled for Monday, 18 September 2017, immediately prior to the main
conference, or Friday, 22 September 2017, which is immediately after
the main conference.
Aims
Tutorials at the MT Summit provide a venue for experts in MT and
MT-related areas to give concentrated training sessions on a topic of
interest that last for a half-day (or occasionally a
full-day). Tutorials helps conference participants (especially
newcomers to the field) to get to grips with the conference program
and enrich their understanding of particular technical, applied, and
business matters relating to research, development and use of MT and
translation technology. Tutorials often take the form of presentations
that sometimes include demonstrations, online information, participant
exercises and other instructional materials and activities. (The
summit will be held in Japan, so topics related to Asian languages are
also welcome)
Compensation
Each presenter will receive a 60,000 JPY honorarium in addition to the
cost of a single economy class airline ticket for the purpose of
attending the conference if there are at least 10 registered attendees
for the tutorial. The honorarium is the same regardless of the number
of presenters. Please be aware that for cost reasons, the MT Summit
XVI organizing committee reserves the right to cancel any tutorial
that has fewer than 10 registered attendees.
Tutorial materials
The tutorial fees take into account the fact that participants are
afforded access to an expert and shall gain something of
value. Well-organized handouts and other materials for the
participants are thus essential. Tutorial speakers have responsibility
to provide materials such as presentation slides and other materials
that constitute part of the tutorial (in PDF format) to enable
registrants to access the materials online before the tutorial session
and to print them and bring them to MT Summit XVI 2017 should they so
desire. Tutorial speakers must submit these materials to the Tutorials
chair on or before the deadline for submission.
